Ah, the spring Capital City Open Karate Tournaments. This year is a bit different with each kiddo working (Willem got off work at 10pm the night before and Lillian started at Carol’s Cones). Both competed as Team Eclipse members of Plumer Karate America.
As Willem is now 18, he competes in the men’s black belt division. Everyone he went up against this year was a couple black belts higher than he was.
When watching the videos, please know that if a competitor drops their weapons, they are not judged and no not move on. Traditional weapons / forms are forms that the schools teach the students and the student presents for competition. Open weapons / forms are forms that are made up by the competitor.
Willem competed in black belt weapons and forms. Received 2nd in weapons and 3rd in forms.
Lillian competed in black belt weapons, forms, and sparring. Received 1st in traditional forms (went to Grand Champion), 2nd in open weapons (had to do a run-off after tying for first), and 4th in sparring.
